It is 2,500 km from Adelaide to Perth. 1,200 km of it across the Nullabor Plain.

The Nullabor is flat but the road has the world's longest golf course with a hole at each roadhouse. Even that wasn't enough to dissuade me from the train.

It was awful. Two nights with very little sleep as it clanked, wobbled and bounced across Oz.

It was a relief to get off.
