This is a true story from my sister, Philippa, in
Cape Town. My mother was staying with her for a few weeks.
Her driving has always been interesting. Over to P: ‘Granny says my driving "it's improved immeasurably, darling" - praise indeed, until I wondered if there were still more room for improvement…. Anyway, we were going to Kirstenbosch on Wednesday, when we saw a smart Mercedes driving backwards in our lane, very haphazardly from side to side. I slowed and when they stopped I veered (steered) to the other side of the road in case they did something strange again. With amazing agility this put my car on a perfect collision/smash course over the expensive-looking hat they were trying to retrieve. It became another hit-and-run case with both Mummy and myself collapsed in giggles. |
