I happened to see the first split entirely by luck when I was looking at something else.

The aluminium had completely cracked around the top mount. It was about five inches long as you can see from the photo. Both panniers had several other cracks.

The panniers were distorted because I've dropped the bike so many times which has allowed them to vibrate more.

This is after two years travelling.
